Default Know which "Q" you have!

Before attempting anything on your "Q", be sure that you understand that there are different "Q"s.

There's the "original" Motorola Q which has been around for some time. Marketed for Verizon/Sprint using CDMA, EVDO technology.

The Q8 is a GSM (SIM chip version) with Quad band GSM and EDGE specifications.

    Then there's the new generation - the Motorola Q 9"x" where "x" may be c, m or h.

In North America, the Q9c and Q9m are for use with carriers such as Sprint and Verizon. (CDMA ; EVDO technology.)

The Q9h - with the SIM chip - is used by carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Vodaphone. (Quad band GSM ; GPRS; EDGE; UMTS and HSPDA technology.)

The Q9e* - with the SIM chip - is used by carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Vodaphone. (Quad band GSM ; GPRS; EDGE; technology.)
*See Post #8 below for more.

The differences may not be limited to the technology inside either.

Connectors (mini- vs micro- USB/charging) and expansion cards (mini- vs micro- SD) may also differ.

    Default Motorola Q 9e

Motorola sells many different versions of its MotoQ smartphone direct, through its website.
There may not be any "significant" price break at the moment - although they ocassionally have "specials" and may include some extras such as extended battery, leather case etc.

The AT&T MotoQ 9h and the GSM, unlocked MotoQ 9e are available.

Prices are the same: $499.00 (Of course, no AT&T contract for the Q 9h.)

However, there appears to be a significant functional difference; missing from the Q 9e specification, but present in the Q 9h is:
"HSDPA technology for fast data transfers, streaming media and web browsing"

In other words, no 3G on Q 9e. (Could it be that "e" means EDGE only?)

    That'd be my guess!
