Google has updated their Mobile app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad with push notifications for Gmail and Calendar. It even gives you as-you-type results for weather, stock quotes, currency exchanges and flight information. This is a nice addition to the app but personally I would love to have seen more. Ever since iOS 4.0 was released we all started enjoying the multitasking feature, and iPhone experience was never the same again. However very quickly I realized that sometimes I would open my background app switcher and realized I have 20 sometimes more apps open in the background.

On Wednesday Apple released iOS 4.0.2 which patches the same exploit used by comex to bring us jailbreakme.com. Oddly enough, Apple failed to release the patch for the iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G. Even though they acknowledged that the security risk is present across all devices, they left out those particular users. Luckily, Saurik (of Cydia fame) was not about to let that happen.

Apple has rolled out a new category in the App Store called Try Before You Buy. But before you get excited about testing that $80 Navigon app, the category is only filled with apps that have "full" and "lite" versions. Unfortunately at this time, it's impossible to "try" an app like that unless you actually buy it. Hopefully sometime in the near future Apple will create a decent method of allowing users to try apps before committing to them since at this moment there is no return/refund policy if you don't like what you bought.

Apple has released the plans for their iPhone 4 Case Program today. If you purchased an iPhone 4, you must download and install the app iPhone 4 Case Program from the Apple Store. Once you run the app, you must choose the case you want and the app will IMEI number to verify that you have an iPhone 4 and qualify for the offer.

If you are an avid Skype user as I am, this is good news! Skype has released version 2.1 (officially listed as 2.0.1 in the App Store) of their popular and free software for the iPhone. At the WWDC today, Steve Jobs announced that the iPhone 4 will come with the iBookstore. It will have the same bookshelf to keep the books on and will have a PDF reader. The iBookstore will now be on the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. This is significant since now it will be possible to buy a book just once and sync it to any of your devices, including your current place in the book, bookmarks and all your notes.

Apple is releasing iMovie for iPhone to tap into the amazing new features of the 5 megapixel iPhone 4 camera. It is probably one of the most amazing on-board video editing apps ever. You can add photos, transistions, titles just to name a few features. It automatically records geolocation with certain themes. In the edit mode, it has a timeline across the bottom, the footage at the top and editing buttons on the four corners. According to Steve Jobs "if we approve it" it will cost $4.99 in the App Store (more applause and laughter!).

According to ReadWriteWeb, Google will be bringing it's popular Android app Google Goggles to the App Store. Google manager Shailesh Nalawadi was asked about the app during a Q&A session at the Augmented Reality Event in Santa Clara, California this past Thursday and answered "Yes, we will be coming to the iPhone soon."
