I am in the market for a new digital camera and i am looking for some help. Since this field is one of my weaker ones i was wondering if the Maximus community would be willing to lend me their opinions?

I am only using the camera for hockey events, computer shows, and parties(of course). I am not looking for it to make me a professional camera man, but it should produce a good picture ;)

Thanks in advance,
Lazy202

if you want to capture it for special events like the events that you stated above, why dont look at 8MP camera or 10MP camera ... it may have good qualities to the pictures and looks sharp as well ....

Any specific brand that you looking at or just a random brands ?

Sony has a nice 12mp Cybershot. Small and portable but very nice photos. I think it's the DSC-W200 (or something like that)! It has 1080 high-def and a face-finder feature! :)

I wouldn't recommend that one. Here is my recent purchase:

http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=11592&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=15301

Why did I buy the Kodak Easyshare Z812? Here are my main points:

1. 12X optical zooms lens - I hate digital zoom so I always go with high optical zoom
2. HD quality photos
3. Panorama pictures are taken at 6.1MP
4. 720P video!!!!! - Now this is the selling point. Not a lot of cameras out there that can do this. :D

Now of course there are some cons.
1. Doesn't include rechargable battery. The rechargable battery and the charger would cost you around another $100 but I think it's worth it.
The battery included with the camera would last you long though. And you can get OEM online for about $9 each I think. Non-OEM is cheaper but I wouldn't recommend them.
2. My PC is old and can't handle the 720P resolution. I think a 5 minute video is over 100MB already. But playing it on the camera itself is really breathtaking. I'm gonna buy the HD TV dock (another $100) for this so I can play the vids on my HDTV!!!

Kodak is supposed to be going heavy into the digital business since the big drop-off in old fashioned, film style cameras.
