I lived for four years across the border from Haiti. My heart goes out to the children and parents. ~maX

PETIONVILLE, Haiti (AP) Haiti's president says the death toll now stands at 58 from the collapse of a three-story school.

President Rene Preval tells The Associated Press that there are buildings throughout Haiti that are at risk of similar collapse because of shoddy construction and lax oversight.

Preval spoke to the AP on Saturday as rescue crews searched the wreckage of the school for more victims.

Authorities said there may have been hundreds of students in La Promesse school when the concrete building collapsed Friday.

Rescue crews working under the glare of floodlights dug through the rubble of a collapsed school early Saturday in a frantic search for students who may still trapped.

Just awful. Impossible to comprehend the impact on the survivors - both children & adults.
