I've just got into Rockbox, IMO its a better OS for the iPod. I currently have it on my 5G iPod video.

Heres a small feature list off the top of my head:
-gapless playback
-replay gain
-support for numerous codecs, including .ogg and i think .FLAC
-Folder based playlists- simply navigate to a folder, play a song and rockbox will play the rest of the folder like a playlist
-game support- Doom anyone?
-applications-clock timer, calculator etc...
-wide range of theme support
-iTunes sync playback support
-Menu reading support, the device can read the menus to you as you browse around

I like this OS versus Apple OS because i no longer need to use iTunes to sync my music...I simply drag and drop over folders to my iPod as if it were an external device. So now to make playlists i'll drag and drop MP3's into their specific folder and I'm done...none of this importing into iTunes then making a new playlist and reogranizing everything...just drag and drop

Another benefit is that if anybody wants any of my music I can simply plug in my iPod and then drag and drop to their computer its great

This OS can co-exist with Apple OS, simply install a different bootloader and then when you turn on your iPhone you can choose what OS you want of a timer will choose for you

Best of all the OS is EXTREMELY EZ TO INSTALL, theres an automated installer utility which will determine your device, grab the latest source from SVN, compile it then install it on your device with full games, apps, etc support
