View Full Version : Switched to a BB Curve

Yes, I made a jump from the iPhone to a BB Curve on Sprint. Before anyone starts in, I had to change carriers because I moved to a different state and AT&T's coverage stunk at my new residence. I tried VZW and it was bad too, so Sprint was my only option.

So far, I am TOTALLY impressed with my Curve AND Sprint service. I have unlimited data/email/nav/Sprint TV/etc. plus 1500 minutes and my bill is less than my AT&T bill was. The TeleNav works great, I use it almost everyday since I'm in a new state and it is surprisingly accurate. I even put it up against my Magellan Roadmate 300 and the voice guidance was within 1/2 a second between the two- no kidding!

Voice quality has been better than AT&T, less garbling and better voice even with only one or two bars. One dropped call in two weeks, but I was out in the middle of nowhere so no complaints.

I really miss the iPhone's touch screen. A lot! Apple has that technology nailed and nobody can "touch" it. I tried an LG Dare on VZW for 24 hours before realizing the coverage was poor and I tried Sprint's "iPhone Killer"...the Instinct. Its a POS, period. Part of the touch screen stopped working after one day and even when it worked it was awful compared to the iPhone. Even the Sprint tech at the main store here said it should have never been released because its a pile of garbage.

Besides the touch screen and cool UI, the Curve beats the pants off my 1st gen iPhone as far as usability and features. The turn-by-turn GPS with voice is enough to take 1st prize for me but things like copy/paste and push email are just outstanding on the Curve. I have gotten so used to the Curve's features that I sometimes wonder how I got along without them.

I'm not at all bashing the iPhone, you all know I've had one for a year and loved every minute of it. My thread is more of a comparison between the two and my own personal experiences. At the end of the day, both devices are great and offer a lot of unique features but I'm finding the BB Curve suits my personal needs much better than my iPhone.

I've heard the the curve is a really good phone, especially since the latest version is suppose to have the same resolution as the iPhone. I was checking out one the other day and thought about getting one. But it's not to replace my iPhone. I have a company phone (Z6 at the moment) that allows me to have a different phone to play with!!!

BTW, how much do you want for the iPhone??? ;)

some of my friends have them and i showed them a bunch of my phones and so they were wondering if i could work my magic on theirs...Always love tinkering with a new toy, even if its not mine

I haven't found the "trackball" to my liking, but RIM sure has a lot of followers.
The Blackberry Bold 9000 is getting good reviews.
Still likin' my Moto Q9h - haven't upgraded/switched for almost a year!!!!

^^^LOL.

A bit off topic, but I'm trying to trade my iPhone for an iPod Touch so I can keep current with at least most of the new modding. :)

That's a good idea! I'm thinking of getting a Q9h to help out here with people who are modding it!

How many gigs???

Kruejl
09-01-2008, 05:30 PM
16 gig, I figure a BNIB 16gb was a fair trade for a used iPhone. I tried to sell it on eBay but too many non-paying scammers so instead of relisting it again I just traded.

I had the same problem with a few iPhones that I sold back when the first unlocks came out. I usually had to go through 3 or 4 non-payers before finally finding a real buyer. By coindidence, they were all from France! I think Apple had people registering and canceling or not paying. At least that was the rumor. :D
